- Carrie Underwood sat down for an interview with Natalie Morales of the Today show.
- The singer opened up about her multiple miscarriages and life on the Cry Pretty tour with a three-month old.
- To help, she’s taking the pressure of herself and taking things day by day.
Carrie Underwood has been living that new mom life (times two!) since giving birth to her second child with husband Mike Fisher in January. But in a new interview with Today cohost Natalie Morales, Carrie said she’s not sure about expanding her family any more—especially since it was so difficult for her to get pregnant a second time.
When asked about a possible baby number three, Carrie basically said IDK. “You know, it’s such a difficult road to get where we are now,” she said. “And I’ll have to evaluate after this tour is over. Then we can talk about what’s next.”
Of course, that difficult road Carrie is referring to the three miscarriages she had between 2017 and 2018, which she spoke about in an interview in September 2018 with CBS Sunday Morning.
Carrie said writing music got her through the worst of her emotions: “And throughout the whole process, you know, I’m writing,” she said. “Literally right after finding out that I would lose a baby, I’d have a writing session, I’d be like, ‘Let’s go. You know, I can’t just sit around thinking about this. Like, I wanna work, I wanna do this.’

But now, even after her miscarriages (and the birth of her nearly three-month-old son), Carrie says she’s “feeling a lot more confident” in herself. It was a tough reality to face, but she and husband Mike Fisher have made it through. “You still might not exactly understand why,” she said, “but you come out on the other side feeling a little bit stronger.” And this kind of candidness is something her fans are super thankful for—they’ve even come up to her on the street and starting crying because she helped them feel less alone.

As far as Carrie’s life on the road right now (she’s not only touring for her album Cry Pretty, but also has her three-month-old with her), she’s tired, tbh. But she’s learned to take some of the pressure off herself and take everything in stride. “I feel like moms put a lot of pressure on themselves to have it all together and know everything,” she said. “It’s impossible.”
Instead of letting the stress get to her, she’s filling up what little free time she has with lunges and squats in her gym (located on her tour bus, FYI), which she says helps her to be a better mom, wife, and performer.
Carrie’s Cry Pretty tour officially kicks off tonight in Greensboro, North Carolina, and as usual, it’s going to be a family affair. Hey Carrie, got room for one more?
